Mahjong Zen Towers FAQ

Common questions and guides for using the Mahjong Zen Towers.

How to play mahjong?

Clear the board by matching identical pairs of 'free' tiles. A tile is considered free if there are no tiles resting on top of it and either its left or right side is open (not blocked by another tile).

What is mahjong?

Mahjong is a traditional tile-based game that originated in China during the Qing dynasty. While originally a 4-player draw-and-discard game similar to Rummy, the single-player matching version (Mahjong Solitaire) is extremely popular online.

Is mahjong hard to learn?

Mahjong Solitaire (the matching puzzle game featured here) is very easy to learn and can be picked up in under a minute. Traditional 4-player Mahjong has a much steeper learning curve with complex rules and score counting.

How many tiles in a mahjong set?

A standard Chinese Mahjong set consists of 144 tiles: 108 suited tiles (dots, bamboos, and characters), 28 honor tiles (winds and dragons), and 8 flower and season tiles.
